My unique approach to fibre and design has been inspired by traditional and contemporary fibre artists from around the world. Influenced by the diversity of cultures and the intensity of climate and landscape where I live in Northern Australia, I harvest and prepare plant materials found in my surrounding environment as well as discarded man-made materials such as recycled fishing nets to create woven sculptural works, installation and photography with which I celebrate the unwanted and overlooked and question the accepted norm of mass consumerism in a plastic society. Exhibiting regularly in Darwin and Nationally I had my first international exhibiting opportunity in Germany, Munich as part of Talente, the prestigious International design and art fair in 2005. I recently completed an Australian Government Research Scholarship as a candidate for a Masters in Visual Arts at Charles Darwin University. My work has been acquired by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory and resides in private collections throughout Australia and Internationally. I love to travel to teach and learn about using plant, man-made and recycled materials to create art. I believe that in every landscape there are new inspirations and materials to experience and explore. An important aspect of my art practice is sharing my skills so I often teach fibre art workshops with adults and children in the Northern Territory and Nationally. Contact me |
